Dr. Roshan Shrestha is the deputy director in the Global Growth Opportunities Division of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation associated with the water, sanitation & Hygiene (WSH) team. He leads the urban sanitation market initiative which is investing to contribute SDG 6.2 by scaling up inclusive safely managed sanitation services in South and South-East Asia and Sub Saharan Africa.
He has three decades of experience in the water and sanitation sector with long field experience in planning, designing, and executing decentralized water, wastewater management, and sustainable sanitation programs in South Asia.
Before joining the Gates Foundation, Dr. Shrestha worked with UN-Habitat in different capacities including regional technical advisor, South Asia and settlement improvement advisor. Dr. Shrestha holds a PhD in applied natural science from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria.
