Cities Investment Platform to be launched at Tenth World Urban Forum.
Nairobi, December 2019 - The Cities Investment Platform (CIP) is a legacy project hosted as part of WUF10, with the goal of connecting cities with sustainable development projects, and private and commercial investors.
Through two interactive sessions during the course of WUF10, CIP will provide local and regional governments a platform to connect with financial institutions, investors and project preparation experts. It will also feature a digital marketplace that will allow cities and investors to interact long after the forum, and lay the groundwork for a pipeline of projects that will form part of UN-Habitat’s new stream of work on sustainable finance.
In September 2019, an Open Call was issued to cities from around the world to submit their sustainable urban development projects. By the close of the call, over 97 viable project submissions were received, with a wide sectoral and geographic spread, and with a total investment value of over USD 2 billion.
From these a shortlist of between 5 and 10 will be selected to be developed into ‘pitches’ that will be presented to a panel of experts with experience in early stage project preparation or infrastructure investment.
UN-Habitat will work closely together with the selected cities and partners Global Development Incubator and United World Infrastructure to develop investor memorandums, which will help to structure the projects and move them towards bankability.
The Cities Investment Platform will host several sessions throughout WUF10:
