Mr. Charles Mbugua is a front line social work practitioner and an expert in urban social economics. He has long and extensive experience working with both urban and rural communities in Africa having worked with the National Christian Council of Kenya, World Council of Churches in Dafur, local and central governments in Kenya, the Economic Commission for Africa, World Vision International and the Great Lakes Regional Development Initiatives.
He is the immediate past president of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) in Africa, and a founder member and co-chair of the Commonwealth Organization for Social Work (COSW). Along with others, he was instrumental in agitating for changes to the UN Rules of produce and engagement which paved the way for the formation of World Urban Forum.
Charles is the representative of IFSW at the UN in Nairobi and a co-chair of the Global Agenda Partners - Older Persons Constituent Group.
