George Wasonga is an experienced urban manager with over 25 years’ senior-level experience in the Kenyan and East Africa urban sector. He is the chief executive officer for the Civil Society Urban Development Platform, which specializes in partnership building for action, capacity development and innovation in policy and governance advocacy.
George has held senior management positions in local government in Kenya, and within the Lake Victoria Region local authorities’ cooperation, contributing to numerous institutional, policy and governance transformation initiatives.
He is co-secretary of the Global Stakeholder Advisory Group of UN-Habitat and a member of the national programme steering committee of the Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) programme of the UK Government in Kenya. He is also the national convener of the Just City Working Group in Kenya.
Wasonga is passionate about inclusive urbanism where all are treated with dignity and respect. He holds an MSc from UEM, the Netherlands.
