Ms. Ahmadi is currently Mayor of the Nili municipality in the Daikundi province of Afghanistan. She is one of the first female mayors in Afghanistan and is one of only two current mayors. As mayor, she has focused on participatory planning and increasing municipal revenue through partnerships with the private sector and community participation. She also supports the creation of women and child-friendly urban spaces in Nili.
Ms. Ahmadi has worked in several urban development roles in government and with different international organizations in Afghanistan. She served for five years with the UN in Afghanistan. While working as an urban planning officer with UN-Habitat, she has involved in strategy municipality action planning, a participatory community-based development approach under the City for All national programme.
Ms. Khadija Ahmadi was born in Afghanistan in 1986. She earned a Master’s degree in Urban Planning at the Art Tehran University in Iran.
