Leonard Habimana holdsa bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences at the University of Burundi. In May 2018 he was appointed to the national commission to propose amendments to the Burundian Constitution. Prior to his appointment, he worked as a journalist at Radio ISANGANIRO.
He has participated in international conferences and received international training on environment audit at ICISA Geneva; protection instruments and International Mechanisms of Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples conducted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; and International Relations-Indigenous Peoples and world order at the University of Bourgogne (UB) in Dijon, France.
Leonard is president and legal representative of an indigenous people’s organization in Burundi, the Association for Development and Socio-Economic Reintegration Populations with Limited Resources (ADRSEPAL). Between 2013 and 2017 he was president and legal representative of the Let us be united for Batwa (UNIPROBA) and the coordinator of Indigenous Peoples and Local Network for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in the Central Africa (REPALEAC).
