Sri Husnaini Sofjan is a senior consultant, programme advisor and strategist at the Huairou Commission and served on its executive board from 2005 to 2007. She was appointed to the UN-Habitat Advisory Group on Gender Issues (AGGI) in August 2012.
In 2012-2013 she served as the first chief executive officer of the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), a state-funded women’s organization. At PWDC she directed the first state level gender responsive participatory budgeting initiative with the two local governments in the state, and led the development of a childcare policy.
From 2006 to 2009 Sri was programme manager for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM, now known as UN Women). She successfully implemented and managed the Strengthening Women’s Legal Rights project, supporting post-conflict and post-disaster recovery efforts in the Acheh region of Indonesia.
Sri worked on a UNDP regional project on urban management and urban governance from 1993 to 2004 and was the regional programme manager for The Urban Governance Initiative (TUGI), a UNDP project in Asia and the Pacific. At UNDP-TUGI she led the design and facilitation of key programmes and tools to create space for inclusion and participation of urban poor women and their communities. These included programmes in local governance such as the Local to Local Dialogues and Platforms, and Governance Report Cards. She also initiated e-governance projects to enhance accountability and transparency with selected local governments in the region.
