Tadashi Matsumoto leads OECD’s thematic work on sustainable development and manages the global relations at the Cities, Urban Policies and Sustainable Development Division. He provides strategic leadership and oversees the research and analysis on topics related to climate change, green growth, urban resilience, localising SDGs, circular economy and energy transition.
He has led many urban green growth studies including Stockholm (2013), Kitakyushu (2013), Bangkok (2015), Hai Phong (2016), Bandung (2016) and Cebu (2017). He is a lead author of the OECD reports: Compact City Policies (2012), Urban Green Growth in Dynamic Asia (2016) and Building Resilient Cities (2018).
Tadashi also leads and coordinates OECD’s contribution to global platforms related to cities and urban policies, including the National Urban Policy Programme, launched in 2016 in partnership with UN-Habitat and Cities Alliance. Under the Programme, he has led the research and analysis on national urban policy, including Urban Policy Review of Viet Nam (2018) and the Global State of National Urban Policy (2018).
Before joining the OECD in 2009, Tadashi worked for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan for more than 10 years. Tadashi holds a MUP (Urban Planning) from New York University and a Ph.D. from Tokyo University (Engineering). He lectures at Tsukuba University, Japan, and SciencesPo, France
