Territories and cities face global challenges and is aligned with the vision of the New Urban Agenda that reaffirms the commitment to sustainable urban development at all levels, involving all actors to solve local problems globally.
Catalonia aligned with the SDGs and the Urban Agenda has developed , the Catalan Urban Agenda is a comprehensive strategy that concerns all levels of governance and multiple stakeholders throughout the territory.
It aims for Catalonia to be climate-neutral, green, digital, and energetically sovereign and it envisions liveable, sustainable, inclusive, and interconnected urban environments, integrating nature and biodiversity to mitigate climate change and supporting life projects. It arises as a valuable multi-level coordination mechanism, requiring multi-sectoral and multi-actor consensus, promoting cooperation, collaboration, mutual learning, and synergies while maintaining the autonomy of all territorial administrations.
The strategic cascade of the New Urban Agenda has been locally implemented in Catalonia through Local Urban Agendas, transforming Catalan urban territories into quality, sustainable, healthy, inclusive, safe, and resilient spaces.
The exhibition will showcase relevant strategies and projects from the different levels of governance –the Catalan Government, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and Barcelona City Council- as an example of territorial coordination aimed at delivering inclusive, sustainable and resilient cities and territories to over 7.5 million Catalan and to future generations.
