Joseph Karimi
Joe Muturi is the President of the SDI Network and Chair of the SDI Board. A dedicated social activist and leader of Kenya's Muungano wa Wanavijiji federation for slum dwellers, Joe has extensive experience working on government and city-led projects aimed at improving urban poor communities. He played a pivotal role in the Mukuru Special Planning Area (SPA) project in Nairobi, which set a precedent for inclusive urban planning. Joe specializes in building relationships between programs and residents, facilitating community consensus on strategy, budgeting, and project implementation. He has helped establish federations in East and West Africa and has formed partnerships with governments and stakeholders. An advocate for climate change awareness in slum communities, Joe also contributes to global advocacy for the federation movement. He serves as an advisor to the Global Resilient Partnership and sits on the Cities Alliance board.
