Urban Cinema


These short films share stories about making cities better through planning and design. Films include: “The Rural Studio,” which explores a new approach to architectural education that puts community at the center of design; “Site Specific: Ballyfermot Play Park” is the story of Irish Youth Services engaging in a community-centered design process to create a BMX park to beat all BMX parks; “Reimagining Freedom West” is a story an historic Black community living in San Francisco’s largest hosing co-op fighting to keep their housing amidst encroaching gentrification; “Precolinear Park” explores how an old urban railway in Turin, Italy, is transformed into a linear park in order to connect a community, “Remnants of Memory” explores and celebrates the beauty of the vivid canals and ancient passageways of Venice, Italy; “Draw Me a Swallow,” is an award-winning film about saving a colony of window swallows while when transforming a brownfield site into a medical-social institution.
