Setting up risk governance and cross-sectoral collaboration for resilience building (by MCR2030 Resilience Hubs)

Knowledge sharing and peer learning are critical components of Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030). Cities that have a political and technical commitment to address disaster and climate risks, and with expertise and interest in disseminating best practices to other cities can be designated as MCR2030 Resilience Hubs. These Hubs have a vital role in enhancing city-to-city collaborations and in supporting other MCR2030 cities in knowledge sharing, capacity building and creating learning opportunities. In addition, they can inspire other cities to commit to becoming resilient cities and communities. Cities learn best from other cities. This training session builds upon the expertise of MCR2030 Resilience Hubs in building the fundamentals to urban resilience particularly in creating horizontal and vertical linkages between local government and multi-layer governance levels and across city stakeholders. It is expected that training participants will: - Have enhanced understanding of the challenges & benefits of integrating urban resilience as a city priority; - Be equipped with various tools & approaches in creating multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral engagement in risk reduction and resilience development; - Be exposed to practical experience in creating risk governance and coordination mechanisms supporting the resilience agenda of the city; and - Have opportunities to engage in city-to-city learning and create potential collaboration with Resilience Hubs. The training's target is the local government leaders and officials, regardless of geographic location, size, and risk portfolio. The training outcome will support participants in strengthening risk governments and creating a cross-sectoral collaboration for resilience. Institutionalizing this governance and coordination mechanism will help mainstream resilience across sectoral decision-makers and assure city development become sustainable and resilient.
