Summary

The main objective of this panel is to present the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Cities (MIL Cities) paradigm from the perspective of some experts from UNESCO MIL ALLIANCE and IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Instituions). Promote reflection on the challenges of building cities in the current era according to Agenda 2030 and how the city we want can and should be transformed and built according to research. We will show cases and examples of urban spaces, neighborhoods and cities that have adopted UNESCO's MIL Ciies framework. We will also show the steps of this process and how this process is being done in several cities around the world, in Africa. Latin America and the Caribbean. This city paradigm includes or has synergies with previous ones, such as smart, sustainable, resilient, educational and healthy cities. The MIL Cities are inspired by the goals of the 2030 Agenda and place citizens and vulnerable groups at the center of innovation and technological transformations, emphasizing critical and creative thinking, ethics, transcending cultural barriers, fighting fake news, infodemics and hate speech. For this, Artificial Intelligence, participatory e-government, indicators and metrics are used. The MIL Cities paradigm from UNESCO will be discussed, showing examples of cities that work in this direction and how the 5 innovation agents should intervene in them: government, educators, entrepreneurs, artists and the common citizen. This new vision of cities allows us to transform our cities for a better urban future by integrating the challenges of the digital and physical city. Panel chair: Alton Grizzle, Panelist: Felipe Chibás (Brasil), Stephen Wyber (United Kingdom), Daniela Calderon Porter(México), Dinesh Babu (India)
