Building Urban Resilience: Climate-Sensitive Planning in Israel and the United States

Climate change is a global challenge. Yet it has a differential effect on different countries, regions and cities. This tension between a universal challenge and local implications demonstrates the need for a comparative approach.

The aim of the event is to discuss ways to increase climate resilience in cities in both the US and Israel, through national policies and local case studies, considering the differences of scale, climate and governance.  

The event will travel between scales and places. It will begin with a macro overview of national / federal policies in Israel and the US, including disaster management, adaptation and mitigation. Then, it will zoom-in on case studies from a city point of view, from Tel Aviv, Nahariya, Hoboken, and more.

This session will highlight the joint partnership between U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Israel Planning Administration (IPA), and the Ministry of Construction and Housing of the State of Israel (MoCH).
