New smart sustainable city development in Kuwait

Sharing Kuwait's new smart city developments experience. The State of Kuwait currently has a high demand for housing and resettlement of its citizens. The National ‎Development Plan indicates a need to provide housing for up to two and a half million people by 2030. The ‎vast majority of this housing demand will be met outside the current boundaries of the Kuwait City ‎metropolitan area. In order to effectively meet this demand, the Public Authority for Housing Welfare is undertaking an ‎ambitious program to deliver a series of large new urban and suburban new cities across the country, that range in size between 30 to 140 km2 each. Integral ‎to the PAHW strategy is the engagement of the private sector in long lasting partnerships for the delivery of ‎these developments. And for the primary benefit of the public and all parties involved.‎ The New Cities that will be designed and constructed according to the most modern and sustainable urban planning ‎practices, modified tailored to suit the climate and culture of Kuwait. Key considerations in the design include ‎the following elements: 1. To overcome the limitation of the existing urban spaces’ functions in Kuwait by providing quality-infrastructures such as artificial lakefront by which amenity of the new towns would be increased; 3-dimensional geography in which people can enjoy and experience urban space; sufficient mass transportation system by which diverse human activities shall be generated at every traffic nodes. 2. To be developed as socially sustainable new towns by providing diverse housing types which embraces various kind of people and class while leading to gradual change to more desirable way of living for the country in the future ; environmentally sustainable new towns, since most suitable methodology on energy generation and consumption shall be introduced ; and economically sustainable new town by the introduction of job-creative business into the city – and it will guarantee the self-sufficiency of the new town itself in the end. 3.In line with the sustainability, City Developments shall have various kinds of urban functions to meet the citizens’ needs for education, business, and entertainment, recreation and so on to create vibrant urban activities inside the city and play a role as a regional hub. 4. by applying cutting-edge smart city technologies to enhance the quality of life for the citizen and efficiency of the operation of the cities with consideration for Kuwaiti culture and tradition, new towns is to be a top-class smart cities, and its methodology on how to maintain and improve the system will be a model of future new town developments in the state of Kuwait as well as MENA region 5. To create a long-lasting partnership with the private sector in developing the project to alleviate the burden on the government and to provide for the developers opportunities in developing residential real estate.
