Summary

The event will provide a platform for municipal leaders from cities in Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Gambia and Cameroon, to dialogue on policy recommendations emanating from a study conducted on youth participation in local governance in the time of COVID-19 Pandemic. The study, conducted by the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat), United Nations Office for South -South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and Plan International, explores the participation of youth in governance particularly during the COVID-19 period in identified cities. The study also responds to why cities or urban spaces? Why the youth? Unlike rural areas, the spatial, population, and service delivery dynamics in urban spaces makes them unique. The South-South Cooperation tools and strategies on knowledge sharing will serve as a driving force towards building resilient cities upon any incoming disasters from lessons learnt and best practices from the COVID-19 pandemic.
