This interactive session brings together learnings of global initiatives, active in the discussion around the 15-minute City concept, and sets out to discuss and contextualise it together with urban policy and change makers.
15-minute City concept brings up a strong vision and narrative, which is currently being tested worldwide. In this interactive session, we explore the relevance and adaptability of such concepts, esp. in the context of African urban environments. By taking up global experience and reflecting it with local realities, the discussion will focus on strategies, policies, and practices to implement the city of proximity
This session brings together the activities and learnings of the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, Chaire ETI of Université Sorbonne and the Global Observatory of Sustainable Proximities, and contextualises it in cooperation with ICLEI Africa and C40. Thus, we set out to connect this experience with urban policy and change makers, and provide a base for networking in this important topic of urban transition.
After sharing impulses on different aspects of the 15-minute City concept - from state-of-the-art to critique and practical examples - participants are invited to join the discussion, and reflect barriers and opportunities of it in their context.
By the end of this session, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of the practicalities and potentials of implementing the 15-minute City. They will leave with actionable insights and a handful of contacts to support collaborative efforts towards sustainable urban development.
More specifically, we aim to create an open learning space to...
...understand and reflect strategies and policies for a 15-minute City and their outcomes
...showcase and offer learnings on good practice and innovative approaches that align with the specific needs and contexts of African cities
...engage with the audience to gather insights, experiences, and potential pathways for implementation.
