This training session is designed to empower participants to champion sustainable mobility initiatives, helping to build more inclusive and environmentally friendly cities across Africa. It also highlights the various support mechanisms available.
Presented by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), this session focuses on equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to implement sustainable urban mobility solutions in African cities. The session covers key areas such as infrastructure, policy, finance, advocacy, and city support mechanisms.
Session 1: Understanding Urban Mobility Challenges & Opportunities
This session examines the key challenges African cities face in urban mobility, including gaps in current approaches. It emphasizes walking and cycling as critical components of sustainable urban mobility. Participants will engage in a discussion and Q&A to share insights on these issues.
Session 2: Showcasing African Solutions
This panel will showcase African urban mobility solutions, with an emphasis on public transport systems, walking and cycling initiatives, multi-modal integration, transition to electric mobility (fuels, vehicles) and people-centered planning.
Session 3:
A focused deep dive into JICA's urban master planning approach, sharing insights and practical applications through a case study that highlights successful urban mobility planning.
Session 4: Support Mechanisms for Cities
This session provides an overview of various support mechanisms available to cities in Africa. These mechanisms aim to help cities implement sustainable mobility solutions, with guidance on accessing financial and technical resources.
