Through a panel discussion, the overall aim of this event to foster dialogue, share insights, and catalyse action towards leveraging internet connectivity as a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable development in Botswana Communities. Championed by Botswana Government through Smart Bots, a digital and innovative Lab for transformative technology and inclusive growth through innovative solutions, the innovative hub has of recent been rolling out high-speed internet connectivity to settlements (rural villages) public spaces, i.e., Main Kgotla, primary Schools, Library , Clinics and Hospitals; as a way of empowering individuals, societies, to harness digital ideas and innovations for sustainable development and livelihoods development. The panel discussion on "Empowering Batswana: Smart Connectivity for Inclusive Development" aims to explore the transformative potential of internet connectivity in urban and rural areas of the country and beyond.
• Analyzing the role of internet connectivity in fostering economic growth, enhancing public services, and promoting sustainable urban & rural development in communities of Botswana.
• Highlighting the importance of extending internet access to rural villages and remote areas, and exploring the potential benefits for agriculture, education, and healthcare, and entrepreneurship, rural development.
• Discussing innovative technologies and strategies to improve connectivity, including expanding broadband infrastructure, leveraging mobile networks, and implementing community-based internet initiatives.
• Identifying existing barriers to internet access in both urban and rural regions of Botswana, such as infrastructure limitations, affordability issues, and digital literacy gaps.
• Emphasizing the need for inclusive policies and programs that address the needs of marginalized communities, bridge the digital divide, and promote equal access to digital opportunities.
• Identifying opportunities for collaboration between government, private sector stakeholders, civil society organizations, and international partners to accelerate progress towards smart cities and villages in Botswana.
