You will learn how this award-winning participatory approach has worked to harness culture as a driver for
sustainable urban development, piloted in 50+ historic districts across Asia. During the training you will also get apply the first steps of this community mapping & storytelling methodology on an actual case study in the historic city centre of Baku, Azerbaijan. This way you get an intimate understanding of how to use the tool to get inhabitants of heritage cities involved and invested in their urban future. The results of the complete exercise will be presented in 2026, when Baku will host the WUF 2026.
This training event gives participants a taster of the methodology through a hands-on exercise and shows how it can be used in a planning or regeneration process. The training event will articulate the process from different perspectives to allow for meaningful reflection about layers of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and how these can be used to 1) create common understanding and trust in complex and fast gentrifying neighbourhoods 2) as drivers for vibrant and viable urban districts
