A new global Institute to drive urban resilience research and innovation

Urban resilience can operationally and normatively integrate climate change, disaster risk reduction and sustainable urban development agenda through multi-level governance and the partnership of researchers, practitioner and policymakers.

Summary

The new Urban Resilience Operational Framework aims to support informed decision and policy-making, with a special focus on the Global South, integrating climate change, disaster risk reduction, and urban development. This event will unfold through presentation and panel discussion with practitioner, policy makers and researchers.

The presentations will address the following topics:

- Urban resilience challenges and the need for an integrating approach
- Profiling and supporting the operationalization of urban resilience
- Multi-level climate action: the urban content of national climate policies
- Advancing scientific research and integration with policy-practice

The panel discussion will address the following topics

- Research and knowledge development: Discussing needs for cutting-edge research for urban resilience.
- Knowledge and technology transfer: Discussing strategies for developing normative and operative recommendations for urban resilience.
- Training and capacity building: Discussing the needs for capacity building and project development support
- Project support: Discussing the needs for support in the project development and implementation
- Partnership and network: Exploring the need and potential of partnership between practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.

Interactive question and answer will allow attendees to delve deeper into specific topics

This event aims to catalyze global action and partnership, fostering a comprehensive dialogue on urban resilience

Objectives

1. Research/Knowledge development: Highlight the Framework's efforts in monitoring urban resilience policies and practices globally

2. Knowledge and technology transfer: Showcase the development and dissemination of normative recommendations for policymakers and operative recommendations for practitioners

3. Training/Capacity building: Present the comprehensive training programs for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers offered by the International Urban Resilience Academy and the establishment of a project development facility to support the creation of bankable urban resilience projects.

4. Project support: Discuss the support provided to selected cities in developing urban resilience profiles and implementing urban resilience plans through the City Resilience Profiling Programme, emphasizing practical tools and strategies for local resilience planning.

5. Partnership and network: Exploring the need and potential for partnerships between practitioners, policy makers, and researchers.starting from collaboration with international partner organization as UN-Habitat, GCoM, ICLEI and UNESCO.
