Background
The New Urban Agenda represents a shared vision for a better and more sustainable future. The New Urban Agenda works as an accelerator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11– Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable – to provide a comprehensive framework to guide and track urbanization around the globe.
As part of the Follow-Up and Review of the New Urban Agenda, the General Assembly requests the Secretary-General to report on the progress of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda every four years, with voluntary inputs from countries and relevant regional and international organizations. Quadrennial report 2026 covering the period of 2022-2026 is a unique moment to take stock of the progress made, challenges faced, identify further steps to address them, as 2026 is the midpoint milestone for the New Urban Agenda marking 10 years since its adoption.
The Executive Directors of UN-Habitat will have a conversation on the importance of the New Urban Agenda, how its implementation has been to date, and how to move forward. They will share their insights from their experiences and discuss how we could achieve the New Urban Agenda.
