Summary

The New Urban Agenda recognized the importance of smart technologies to propel transformative change for sustainable urbanization and the realization of SDG Goal 11, to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Information and communications technologies, data and the new digital economy are increasingly playing a major role focused on the people living and managing the cities, especially in urban regeneration. Big data, the internet of things and sensor networks offer new ways for urban managers to make informed decisions and strategic choices. Digital platforms and applications are facilitating dialogue between citizens and decision-makers. Autonomous vehicles and drones will change urban mobility and impact on the spatial organization of cities. New mapping and 3D visualization techniques provide new opportunities for planning our cities. The sharing economy is creating new job opportunities and ways to make business.

The development of urban regeneration has been upgrading from the traditional to regional interconnection, business cluster, “digital intelligence + digital governance”. People-centered urban regeneration will use the technological methods and digital technology to activate old urban space, promote the revitalization of cities with more environmentally friendly and exquisite, upgrade the urban industrial structure, improve the level of local governance and service, so as to promote the sustainable urban development as well as the quality of people’s lives.

Therefore, the key presentations will exchange their experience on how to do the people-centered urban regeneration using the digital innovative solutions in China, Norway and Netherlands.
