Learn about the increasing number of international and national schemes available to both directly finance and support the development of city level climate actions.
The Urban-Act project is supported by the International Climate Initiative, a key instrument of the German Federal Government to support international climate action and biodiversity. The Urban-Act Regional Training Program is being led by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), supported by the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Centre for Cities. Cities involved in the program have been selected from Urban-Act partner countries – China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand. These cities are being supported by a number of locally-based research and education institutions, peak-bodies, and other implementing partners and entities, including national government line ministries.
The training is developed in three main parts:
Session 1 will provide participants with insights from an expert panel of international city climate finance specialists, representing a range of organizations from across the climate sector.
In Session 2, participants will take part in an activity to refine a suite of draft city climate initiatives from the Urban-Act: Integrate Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities in the Asia-Pacific project and its Regional Training Programme, with cities represented from across five partner countries. External participants will have the option of developing rapid project presentations for their own cities or joining one of the existing Urban-Act teams.
In Session 3, each team will present their project to the expert panel, gaining unique feedback and insights from both panel members and other city participants into the different considerations in developing a ‘bankable’ city climate initiative.
