Location intelligence for sustainable cities and communities

Modern cities utilise technology and digital solutions to enable sustainability, equity and prosperity, but need to ensure that people stay front and centre of government and community-led initiatives. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology can power community engagement to build a bridge between government and citizens and ensure that data-driven decision making can support city policy and decision making with
people in mind. GIS is also a critical tool in understanding and responding to the climate crisis at a global, regional and local level.

Through global examples of technology in action with various organisations, Esri’s exhibit at WUF12 will showcase:

• How the geographic approach enables better and more sustainable city planning and design
• How GIS enables city leaders to drive efficiencies across their operations and reduce climate impacts
• Examples of critical insights, risk reduction and climate mitigation actions from taking a data-driven approach to decision making
• How community engagement enhances trust and transparency between city leaders and the public

Esri will bring regional and global leaders with expertise in cities, government, sustainability, resiliency to WUF12 to share experiences, strategies and approaches for leveraging GIS technology to support communities and mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis in cities and beyond.
