The Ministry of Local Government of Palestine
Urban planning in Palestine faces significant challenges due to political fragmentation, land scarcity, settlement expansion, infrastructure deficits, legal constraints, rapid urbanization, and environmental sustainability concerns. These challenges are exacerbated by the complex socio-political context, including the division of Palestinian territories and restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities. The ongoing war on GAZA, leading to mass destruction of housing, violation of human rights, limited or no access to basic services. Addressing these issues requires coordinated efforts to strengthen governance structures, improve institutional capacity, foster community participation, and promote sustainable development principles. International support and cooperation are crucial in overcoming these challenges and building resilient and inclusive urban environments in Palestine.
The loss of home in Palestine is a complex issue that stems from the history of conflict and displacement, which started in 1948 and is ongoing until today. The loss of home in Palestine has been further exacerbated by ongoing conflict, Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied territories, demolitions of Palestinian homes, and discriminatory policies that restrict Palestinian land ownership and residency rights.
The Palestinian booth is expected to present the Palestinian efforts in overcoming challenges, highlight success stories, and show the efforts of the Government, Local Authorities, civil society and other partners in achieving sustainability, through localizing agenda 2030, responding to climate change, enhancing social participation and community empowerment, awareness and education, renewable energy and other strategies.
The booth will be designed in a smart attractive way, presenting facts and figures, accompanied by multimedia formats presented on TV screens. It will also contain a small meeting area for networking, discussions, activities and awareness raising.
