Edgar Pieterse
Edgar Pieterse is the founding director of the African Centre for Cities (ACC) at the University of Cape Town. His research and teaching focus on urban futures, sustainable urban infrastructure, place-making, responsive design, and adaptive governance systems. His scholarship seeks to understand how climate change, inequality, informality, governance, and technology intersect in urban environments, particularly in Africa and cities of the global South. Edgar is the Co-Chair of the African Mayoral Leadership Programme (AMALI), Provost of the Norman Foster Institute, and serves on the board of the Development Bank of Southern Africa. He is widely published, with his latest co-authored book titled Cities Rethought: A New Urban Disposition (Polity Press). His curatorial work, under the masthead of Cityscapes (CS), includes Cityscapes Magazine No.11 and an exhibition-in-a-box called CS.Shift—Emergence.
