Reycel Hyacenth Bendana
Reycel Hyacenth Bendana, daughter of Renato, a jeepney driver on the FTI-Pasay route for over two decades, grew up immersed in the world of public transportation. As a child, she worked as her father's konduktor and barker, joining jeepney strikes as early as age 7 alongside the transport group ACTO at the FTI terminal in Taguig City. In 2020, in response to the injustices faced by transport workers and the heightened risks of COVID-19 in public transportation, Hya co-founded the Move As One Coalition with her friends. The coalition advocates for a safer, more inclusive, and humane transport system in the Philippines and has successfully secured a ₱41.5 billion budget for bike lanes, service contracting, and equity subsidies. Hya now focuses on abolishing the boundary system and advocating for a just transition to ensure that jeepney drivers, like her father, are not left behind in the modernization of the transportation system.
