Summary

In 2021, the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) in Brazil conducted regional and civil society-led workshops with city administrations, state governments, Academia and civil society to build Sustainable Urban Development Goals in the framework of the elaboration of the Brazilian National Urban Development Policy. This participatory process was supported by GIZ Brazil through meta-design processes. The results from the workshops were systematized with the support from WRI Brasil and presented by MDR to the public in the National Sustainable Urban Development Week on 7 December 2021. The aim of this event is to showcase a concrete example of NUP formulation connected to the 2030 Agenda and fueled by participation. MDR is going to present Brazil’s Sustainable Urban Development Goals, followed by a presentation from GIZ on the metadesign-based participatory process and a presentation from WRI Brasil on the systematization process. UN-Habitat will finalize the session showcasing some examples of sub-national initiatives at state and city level of SDG mainstreaming in public policies.
