The event will showcase learnings from Shelter Afrique, UN Habitat Regional Office for Africa, International Finance Corporation EDGE Platform and the Islamic Development Bank as it relates to affordable housing and urban development in Africa. The event will feature key market players that do play a vital role in the built environment practice in Africa in terms of mobilizing financing for affordable housing, enhancing policy formulation and driving Green Building initiatives across Africa. The event will showcase leveraging on the ideals of partnerships between relevant institutions towards driving the objectives of the 2030 Goals of Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063.
This event brings together Shelter Afrique, UN Habitat Regional Office for Africa, International Finance Corporation and Islamic Development Bank to share their experience on the opportunities and challenges related to unlocking affordable housing industry in Africa.
Shelter Afrique is a pan-African finance institution that exclusively supports the development of affordable housing and urban development in Africa; Together with IFC through the EDGE Platform, Shelter Afrique aims to enhance the delivery of Edge Compliant Green Affordable Housing in Africa.
Whereas, with the Regional Office for Africa at UN Habitat, the two institutions are jointly developing the Housing Compact for Africa, which aims to provide a regional platform for governments, the private sector, civil society and intergovernmental and international organizations to work collaboratively to make progress towards well-performing housing sectors in Africa
The session is expected to discuss on the role of partnerships and resilience strategies in enhancing the affordable housing and urban development in Africa, which will consequently enable the region to achieve its set social and economic development goals.
