Summary

During the German G7 Presidency 2022, the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) is coordinating a G7 dialogue on sustainable urban development for the first time in G7 history.

Given the growing momentum worldwide among many national and local governments to take cities to the center stage for sustainable development, it is time to renew the commitment for an international urban development policy approach towards sustainability. The German G7 Presidency wants to work towards a G7 commitment in this regard by a targeted discussion about the benefits of, and potential requirements for sustainable urban development.

As part of the G7 urban development programme, this event is designed to intensify the dialogue with stakeholders on constructive and innovative ideas to achieve sustainable development in our cities, with our cities and for all potential beneficiaries of good urban policies. Thus, the event provides an opportunity for WUF attendees to discuss with G7 representatives and key stakeholders the priorities set out for the G7 ministerial track on urban development which will culminate in the G7 meeting of ministers in September 2022 in Potsdam/Germany.

Objectives

  1. Highlighting G7 as a group of states and their partners promoting sustainable urban development worldwide.

  2. Allowing WUF participants to engage with Germany’s G7 Presidency on priorities of urban development policy, and to contribute to the discussion on what the G7 ministers should take into consideration in their Ministerial Meeting’s agenda.
