Building Resilience for Sustainable Urban Futures

Summary

The aim of the session is to explore opportunities to develop and sustain multi-sectoral health action across a wide range of non-health and health actors involved in building urban resilience agendas in cities of LMICs. The session will focus on ways the changing climate is affecting food and built environments while considering measures for climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resilience-building. Through a participatory discussion, the event will highlight the intersections between Urban planning and Health by focusing on the engagement of different commercial, policy and youth actors working on urban resilience in different sites of the GDAR network and beyond. The event is designed to be interactive with urban resilience in Low-and-Middle-Income-Countries (LMICs) as a central theme to break silos and increase synergies between urban agendas and public health. This session will underline that actors and decision-makers at all levels and from many sectors have a role in designing, engaging, and acting on academic agendas.

Objectives

The key objectives of this networking session are:

  • Identify and aim for transdisciplinary partnerships across actors and sectors, to co-design and co-produce research in LMIC cities.
  • Better understand the local capacities of community, policy and commercial actors and institutions involved in programs for urban resilience.
  • Highlight experience and focus of participants when considering barriers and opportunities to urban resilience programs.
