WUF12

Summary

Under the theme “All start at home”, the Government of Egypt and UN-Habitat have set the way to revisit legislation, operations, reforms, financing mechanisms, and human capital required to reduce housing deficit, address consequence or spillover effects of conflict, better manage social unrest induced by the high cost of living and adopt a proactive approach to climate change preparedness and management.

The WUF 12 comes just after the concluded Inaugural AUF in Ethiopia, during which ministers of housing and urban development agreed to leverage the potential of urbanization to achieving the SDGs, the NUA and the Africa Vision 2063 (Africa we want). Thus, the WUF is offering an opportunity to reflect on the Addis Ababa declaration and inform the action plan for its implementation; and to set some milestones. This would be an opportunity to promote high level dialogues between Ministers, mayors and local governments and Heads of Delegation around critical issues of the declaration and to put it into every country context.

The format will be a morning caucus from 8:00 to 9:00 based on active engagement of ministers and head of delegations. All African delegations are convened to attend the caucus and to bring countries specific experiences. The morning caucus are also open to development partners and observers undertaking programs and activities in the urban sectors in Africa.

Speakers: UN-Habitat, Cameroon, South Africa, and DRC
