Summary

Miyamoto International and the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) is excited to present two key innovations at our upcoming panel discussion, in support of our organizations' commitment towards the US Government's PREPARE, which focuses on bolstering climate resilience globally, equipping communities, particularly in vulnerable regions, with the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

With a focus on developing countries, Miyamoto is proud to introduce the Guide for Climate Resilient Retrofits and a Living Repository. These resources are the result of a Climate Resilient Housing Solutions Challenge, aiming to significantly enhancing the resilience of housing and communities globally.

The Guide for Climate Resilient Retrofits is the result of extensive research combined with crowd-sourced insights, offering a broad range of retrofitting strategies to specifically strengthen housing against climate impacts. It emphasizes disaster-resistant techniques, sustainable materials, climate-adaptive designs, and nature-centric solutions, tailored for global application with a focus on aiding adaptation efforts in low- and middle-income regions.

Living Repository is an innovative online platform that aggregates a vast collection of case studies sourced through the innovation challenge and crowdsourcing approach, making it a critical hub for knowledge sharing. The platform categorizes solutions according to their effectiveness in mitigating environmental hazards like landslides, heat waves, flooding, and cyclones, and includes topics such as resilient construction, innovative materials, ecosystem adaptation strategies, and enabling policies amongst others, all accessible through a detailed tagging system.

In addition to these tools, the Global Resilience Partnership is presenting insights and specific case studies brough to light in the Resilience Evidence Forum. This event brought together key stakeholders to discuss and develop evidence-based approaches for resilience, focusing on practical outcomes and actionable insights that can be applied globally. The forum highlighted the importance of community engagement and the need for evidence-based approaches in policy-making and resilience strategies.

Together, these resources and insights aim to spark a global dialogue on scalable, cost-effective strategies for housing climate resilience, fostering a collective push towards creating safer, more sustainable living environments. Our panel discussion will showcase these innovations, encouraging collaboration and collective action to address climate change.

Objectives

Our event highlights two key outputs from our climate resilience challenge—the Guide for Climate Resilient Retrofits and the Living Repository—alongside GRP’s Resilience Evidence Forum. These tools signify our commitment to democratizing information, crucial in developing countries where resilience strategies are scarce. By providing practical guidance universally, we bridge knowledge gaps from grassroots to government levels.

Key Objectives:

Universal Access: We aim to empower global communities, especially in developing regions, with effective resilience practices by widely disseminating the Guide and Repository.
Housing Resilience: Our event prioritizes advancing resilient housing solutions, often overlooked in climate discussions, essential for community protection.
Community Building: We foster a platform for sharing innovations and best practices, promoting collaboration and continuous learning.
Empowering Actions: We facilitate inclusive resilience approaches, encouraging local to global actions for integrated community and infrastructure development.
By centering on these objectives, our event not only showcases tools but also contributes to broader resilience efforts. We're dedicated to fostering an informed, collaborative community ready to tackle climate challenges, especially in underserved areas.
