With a keen focus on leveraging innovative financial mechanisms to execute ambitious climate action plans, the discussion will illuminate the vital role of financing in driving sustainable progress across the continent. Moreover, the session will explore how initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) serve as catalysts for mobilizing financial resources and fostering collaboration among cities. By showcasing successful approaches to accessing finance and implementing climate solutions, the session aims to inspire and equip participants with actionable insights to accelerate SDG delivery and build resilient communities throughout Africa.

Objectives

1. Examine the pivotal role of innovative financial mechanisms in enabling Sub-Saharan African local governments to implement ambitious climate action plans and advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular emphasis on enhancing access to finance and leveraging resources effectively.
2. Showcase successful case studies and best practices from cities across the continent, demonstrating how strategic financing approaches have been utilized to drive tangible progress in addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development objectives.
3. Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders, including representatives from local governments, financial institutions, and development organizations, to identify opportunities for scaling up financing solutions and accelerating the pace of SDG implementation in Africa, with a focus on building resilient and sustainable communities.
