Summary

The training offers well-tested tools and housing practices drawn from case studies from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe. Participants will get familiar with the housing solutions in different contexts and develop their understanding about the close association between the supply of affordable housing, the availability of housing finance, informality and the urban form of cities. The programme draws on the work carried out by the coordinators for IFC/World Bank, UN-Habitat, IHS & CAHF.

Objectives

1. Participants will get familiar with practical tools that will help them to develop their capacity to carry out housing sector analysis and to analyze how the housing sector works in their own countries.
2. Participants will learn the rationale of housing markets, the supply and demand sides of the housing sector and the types of policies to deliver affordable housing options at scale and diversity of price, size, standard and location, drawn from a wide range of real case studies.
