Summary

Cities are at the heart of creating a sustainable world. Transport-related emissions have a significant share in overall emissions and curtailing them is crucial to enable a healthy lifestyle.

This event will consider how connecting transport and land use systematically enables cities to become more sustainable and inclusive. It will showcase the potential of electric mobility to make investments more attractive and inclusive. The status and challenges of EV adoption in emerging economies will be discussed and the need for support from city governments will be assessed.

The multidisciplinary panel features speakers from cities, sharing firsthand experiences, as well as leading organisations in the field, establishing baselines and seeking to improve the quality of life through investments in sustainable infrastructure.

Developing suitable policies and infrastructure is crucial to facilitate an efficient EV ecosystem and thus ensure a seamless transition. City governments will take a leading role in facilitating prerequisite EV infrastructure such as charging stations and dedicated parking. This will enhance access to finance, availability of technology and social acceptance, thereby accelerating the wide-scale adoption of EVs.

Investing in sustainable transport infrastructure is a winning solution for cities looking to harness the economic potential of its inhabitants. There is a need to ensure that cities take a sustainable and resilient approach towards the development of their infrastructure - one that aims for positive social, economic, gender and environmental impacts.

Objectives

• Raising awareness of the importance of better connecting transport and land-use investments from a financing point-of-view;
• Showcasing how electric mobility can act as a bridge to bring siloes together to make investments more attractive and inclusive, especially relating to gender mainstreaming;
• Discuss the current status of EV adoption and key challenges in emerging economies;
• Assess the need for policy and infrastructure support from city governments, assessing infrastructure readiness.
