This event focuses on the Africa Urban Resilience Programme (AURP) of the African Union Commission (AUC), emphasizing its potential to transform disasters in Africa into opportunities for informed and sustainable development. Discussions will highlight how the AURP can catalyze positive change and urban resilience. Additionally, the event will highlight ongoing joint efforts to implement the programme, notably the Aqinile Partnership for Urban Resilience (with UNDP and UN-Habitat), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Regional Project - Resilience Initiative Africa (with GIZ and UNDRR). The current implementing partners of the AURP, across the Aqinile Partnership and GIZ RIA project are collaborating to produce a knowledge series on the urban resilience practice in the continent. This partnership stresses the importance of streamlined efforts, resource efficiency, and the need for strong governance and coordination mechanisms for effective urban resilience building. Attendees will gain practical insights into navigating governance and collaboration among stakeholders to foster a resilient future for Africa's urban centers.
The main objectives of this event will be:
1) To emphasize the transformative potential of the Africa Urban Resilience Programme.
2) To present the current implementation mechanisms of the AURP, and the strong governance and coordination between policymakers and implementation bodies that would ensure an efficient implementation of the programme.
2) To popularize and present an overview and initial reflections from the knowledge series, which will include case studies from different geographical contexts.
