Leveraging the Transformative Potential of Finance for Climate Action in Cities Learning from Brazil

This networking event aims at exploring the critical role of financial institutions and multi-level climate action in advancing sustainable urban development, with the example of stakeholders and initiatives active in Brazil. Discussions will delve into a broad landscape of climate finance and the collaborative potential between Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), financial intermediaries such as National and Regional Development Banks as well as Project Preparation Facilities (PPFs) and cities to enhance urban climate financing. By leveraging the experiences from bilateral projects like "Cidade Presente" and “ANDUS” in a strategic cooperation with project preparation facilities such as the Cities Finance Facility (CFF) and the City Climate Finance Gap Fund (Gap Fund) as well as programs like “National Development Banks for Urban Climate Action Program” (NUCA), we aim to discuss strategies for equipping cities with the necessary resources to achieve their climate objectives. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the synergies and challenges involved in mobilizing finance for sustainable urban development, particularly in Brazil.
