Summary

This event will be led by Lao PDR and supported by ESCAP and UN-Habitat. The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Public Works & Transport H.E Lan Sengaphone will provide opening remarks.
This event will bring together policymakers, digital innovation partners, practitioners, private sector, donors, development partners, academics and stakeholders committed to advancing smart cities and leveraging digital innovation to support localization of SDGs and climate action. The event will highlight the key challenges and opportunities that governments and development partners are experiencing in advancing smart cities and discuss potential solutions.

Objectives

The objectives of the session would be:

a. Raise Awareness: Increase awareness among stakeholders about the importance of localizing national smart city strategies for sustainable development and climate action.
b. Knowledge sharing: Facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange of best practices among policy makers, experts, practitioners involved in smart city initiatives. Showcase successful case studies and lessons learned from different cities and regions.
c. Policy Dialogue: Foster a constructive policy dialogue among key stakeholders to identify policy gaps, opportunities, and priorities for effectively localizing smart city strategies in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate targets.
d. Resource mobilization: Explore mechanisms for mobilizing financial resources, technology transfer and technical assistance to support the implementation of national smart city strategies and localized smart city initiatives.
