Summary

This event focuses on the practical application of the Asia Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (APUAP) as a regional New Urban Agenda (NUA) acceleration platform, using housing and community resilience as strategic entry points aligned with the WUF13 theme “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.” APUAP promotes regional cooperation and collaboration to drive sustainable urban development across the Asia-Pacific region, with an expanding scope to include GCC cities, supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11. The platform was developed in response to the 2022 High-Level Meeting on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda, where Member States called for strengthened knowledge sharing, data use, monitoring, and reporting on NUA implementation. APUAP also serves as an evidence-based learning hub, supporting cities and Member States in contributing to the Secretary-General’s Third Quadrennial Report on the New Urban Agenda (2026) through structured application of Urban Monitoring Frameworks (UMF). Designed as a Lab, the event is an interactive, practice-oriented structure that combines strategic framing, hands-on platform use, and peer learning. Participants will first be introduced to the NUA acceleration approach and the role of UMF in linking housing, resilience, and urban systems outcomes. They will then apply the APUAP Platform to diagnose a real housing or community resilience challenge from their own context, such as climate exposure, housing insecurity, informal settlements, or urban services gaps, using UMF-aligned indicators to connect local conditions with NUA principles and SDG targets. Through facilitated group work and peer-to-peer exchange, participants will co-develop a City Housing and Resilience Action Snapshot, identifying priority actions, key stakeholders, financing and coordination needs, and realistic implementation pathways. The lab also demonstrates how platform outputs can support local planning, programme design, and evidence-based reporting on NUA progress, including inputs relevant to Voluntary Local Reviews and the Quadrennial Report process. The session will formally launch the extended APUAP training track , positioning the platform as a cross-regional New Urban Agenda acceleration mechanism linking Asia-Pacific and GCC cities and enabling sustained learning, collaboration, and scaling beyond WUF13.
