From Adequate Housing to Livable Communities - Advancing a Sustainable Urban Future through Shanghai Award City Practices

The Fuzhou Municipal People's Government hereby applies to host a thematic side event titled “From Adequate Housing to Livable Communities - Advancing a Sustainable Urban Future through Shanghai Award City Practices.” Aligned with the theme of the 13th World Urban Forum “Housing the world: safe and resilient cities and communities”, the event will focus on one of the six major dialogue themes, “The global housing crisis: what is the plan?” The event aims to establish an inclusive, open, pragmatic, and efficient platform for exchange, bringing together global cities to explore shared challenges and practical approaches to addressing the housing crisis while advancing sustainable communities and cities. Through experience-sharing and dialogue, the event seeks to promote prosperity, innovation, and resilient development, and to jointly envision and build a future-oriented “new home” for humanity. The global housing crisis has become increasingly persistent and complex, emerging as a critical constraint on sustainable urban development worldwide. As a recipient of the inaugural Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities, Fuzhou bears a responsibility to play a leading role by actively contributing to collective global responses to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. Through this side event, we seek to strengthen mutual learning among cities in the areas of housing and sustainable community development, and to jointly advance the creation of inclusive, safe, disaster-resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements. The meeting will invite representatives from UN-Habitat, the International Society of City and Regional Planners, the Urban Planning Society of China, and Shanghai Award cities worldwide who are committed to advancing sustainable development to share their localized experiences. Cities from diverse nations and regions will have the opportunity to share their latest actions and progress, engage in international cooperation and capacity-building initiatives, and further promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the localization of SDG 11.
