This event aims to present the SDC–UN-Habitat proposal to promote local urban solutions for disaster risk reduction, and to convene a panel of discussants to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that national and local governments, communities, and international cooperation actors face in relation to the proposed approach. The expected outcome of the event is to gather perspectives from different sectors on risk management and to foster a network of partnerships that can strengthen and scale up an ongoing joint initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean. Suggested guiding questions: - What are the main challenges and opportunities for promoting and scaling up local urban solutions for disaster risk reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean? - How can national and local governments better enable local solutions, including through policy frameworks, financing mechanisms, and institutional coordination? - What role do communities and local actors play in the design, implementation, and long-term sustainability of disaster risk reduction and climate action initiatives? - How can international cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships support locally led urban solutions and help scale successful experiences across the region?
