Ai-based Visualisation for Affordable Housing and Informal Settlement Upgrading

This WUF Academy training focuses on how AI-based visualisation methods can support participatory planning, peer learning and implementation-oriented decision-making in the context of affordable housing and informal settlement upgrading. The training builds on the ongoing work of the Connective Cities Sustainable & Affordable Housing Working Group and recent agile peer-learning formats requested by cities such as Berlin and Nairobi. It presents concrete city-driven examples where AI-supported visual tools were used to explore spatial scenarios, communicate planning options and support early decision-making. The session combines short inputs, hands-on demonstrations and facilitated peer exchange. Participants work with visual scenarios and reflect on how AI-supported tools can strengthen dialogue with communities, technical departments and decision-makers, while supporting the transition from vision to implementation. Further online inputs will complement the discussion, including perspectives from Huye District/ Rwanda, Hebron Municipality/ Palestine, and GIZ Bolivia/ Santa Cruz, as well as methodological support for the AI exercise by CoPlan AI.
