Summary

This networking event will bring together international experts engaged in monitoring and reporting SDG 11.1.1 to advance inclusive urban development. Presenters and participants will explore how stronger global and inter-organizational cooperation can improve the identification, understanding, and response to slums and informal settlements, acknowledging that fragmented efforts across countries and institutions constrain collective impact. A central focus of the discussion will be the policy needs and information requirements of local and national actors. Too often, Geo AI methods are developed with a limited understanding of what level of detail is actionable for decision-makers, or how information fits into planning and investment processes. Participants will jointly explore the questions that should guide data production: what information is needed, by whom, at what scale, and for which policy decisions. They will exchange experiences from different regions, highlight complementary initiatives, and explore opportunities for coordinated action across agencies and geographies. The discussion will also serve as a collective validation of priorities for a practical guide on GeoAI solutions designed for policy uptake, helping ensure that future methodologies are aligned with real-world needs and can be more effectively scaled in support of inclusive housing and the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The session will be structured to foster interaction and peer exchange. It will begin with a joint presentation outlining a shared vision and framing the discussion (15–20 minutes), followed by short individual statements from panelists introducing their background, motivations for joining, and main priorities. Participants will then engage through interactive tools (e.g., live polling or facilitated inputs) to surface perspectives and common themes, before concluding with a moderated discussion to synthesize insights and identify concrete next steps for collaboration.
