Caring and Transformative Cities, Approaches to Housing, Urban renewal and Gender equality

This side event, convened by the Government of Mexico City in partnership with UN-Habitat, UN Women and regional feminist networks, will showcase how a feminist and care-centered approach to urban policy strengthens housing solutions, social infrastructure and community resilience. Building on Mexico City’s leadership in advancing Cities of Care and Feminist Cities agendas, the session will connect housing policies with everyday life, care systems, mobility, accessibility and territorial equity, highlighting the indivisible relationship between housing, care and the right to the city The event will bring together local governments, international organizations, academia and feminist territorial organizations to share conceptual frameworks, concrete local experiences and community-based perspectives that place care at the center of urban planning. It will draw on outcomes from the Care Cities Forum held in Mexico City (August 2025), as well as key global commitments including the New Urban Agenda, Beijing+30, the Buenos Aires Consensus (2022) and the Tlatelolco Commitment on the Care Society (2025) .
