Summary

This networking event hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI), United Arab Emirates, in collabration with the Malaysia’s Ministry of Housing and Local Government to provide a global platform for coastal cities, national authorities, international organizations, financing institutions, researchers, and solution providers to connect, share practical experience, and launch partnerships to protect housing and strengthen coastal community resilience. It directly supports the WUF13 theme: “Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities.” The session is designed as a connection-driven forum, not a traditional panel. It combines short, high-impact case showcases with facilitated thematic networking to help participants identify collaboration opportunities, transfer proven solutions, and explore implementation pathways. The emphasis is on what works, how it is delivered, and how it can be adapted across diverse coastal contexts. The event will spotlight integrated coastal adaptation approaches that safeguard housing, including engineered coastal protection, nature-based solutions, adaptive housing design and standards, risk-informed land-use planning, and early warning systems. It will also prioritize equity, focusing on approaches that protect lowincome communities and reduce displacement risks, including climate gentrification. By convening stakeholders around shared coastal housing challenges, the session aims to catalyze city-to-city cooperation, technical assistance partnerships, and financing linkages—accelerating action beyond WUF13. Proposed outcomes include exploring a “Coastal Cities Housing Resilience Community of Practice” and advancing a “Baku Statement on Coastal Housing Adaptation.” MOEI will support follow-up engagement to sustain collaboration, track partnerships, and document progress on knowledge exchange and implementation. Key themes: - Sea level rise and coastal housing safety - Integrated adaptation solutions for safe and resilient communities - Risk-informed planning and housing policy
