The session is showcasing the Global Planners Network (GPN) and its members. The network is chaired by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and this partnership is the largest network of international and national planning organisations. The event will be an opportunity to raise awareness of and champion planning and planners as a central part of the solution to housing the world and promote healthy, inclusive, safe and resilient cities and communities in alignment with key international agreements on sustainable development and climate change. The event will gather GPN member organisations representatives, and other WUF13 delegates to foster a dialogue on planning as a lever to unlock sustainable, inclusive, equitable, prosperous and resilient places and guide the delivery of better outcomes for people in municipalities and regions around the world. It will demonstrate how planning can empower cities and communities and provides pathways to prosperity through practical examples, from delivering the right homes in the right locations, linking services and infrastructure, working with nature to address urban challenges, and inspiring collective solutions. The session will demonstrate that planning is a dynamic and responsive profession, that can support the creation of resilient, just, and thriving cities and communities across the globe. Global partnerships such as the Global Planners Network are vital to mobilise and share knowledge and expertise to support the achievement of the SDGs in all countries. The purposes of this networking event are to: • Raise awareness of planning and its role with WUF13 attendees, including, all levels of government, community-based organisations, the private sector, and other professionals. • Encourage multi-level dialogue and new collaborations • Showcase initiatives, instruments and solutions deployed by GPN members • Expend the Global Planners Network reach to increase mobilisation, knowledge sharing and support for planning capacity and capabilities.
