Imagining Future Resilient Communities: Artistic Research at the Intersection of Climate and Housing

This workshop explores how interdisciplinary artistic research can deepen understanding of the climate-housing nexus by connecting environmental change with lived, sensory, and cultural experiences. Drawing on participatory projects, art–science collaborations, and international residencies, Dr. Catherine Sarah Young examines how artistic and speculative practices can support more inclusive and resilient urban futures. Through case studies, sensory materials, and interactive engagement, participants will explore how smell, memory, visual language, and community participation can reveal forms of knowledge often excluded from planning and policy frameworks. The session argues that integrating artistic, scientific, and community knowledge systems is essential for imagining equitable and climate-responsive housing futures.
