From Informal Sprawl to Resilient Integration: An Adaptive Planning Framework for Sprawl Residential Expansions of Benghazi

This interactive session explores how Benghazi’s informal urban sprawl can be transformed into resilient and integrated neighborhoods through an adaptive, polycentric planning framework. It argues that informal growth should be understood as a form of self-organisation that can be leveraged to address governance gaps and support incremental, inclusive urban upgrading. Participants engage in hands-on activities including spatial mapping, role-play simulations, and co-design workshops to identify opportunities for integration, test governance dynamics, and prototype connective infrastructure.
